Autonomous Drone
DEPLOYED
2007

Description

Long-endurance remotely piloted aircraft upgraded with AI-assisted targeting and autonomous flight capabilities. Operates in ISR and strike roles with machine learning-enhanced sensor fusion.

The MQ-9 Reaper operates at altitudes exceeding 50,000 feet with endurance surpassing 27 hours, making it one of the most capable persistent ISR and strike platforms in the US inventory. Its AI-assisted sensor fusion integrates multi-spectral imaging, synthetic aperture radar, and signals intelligence to autonomously cue targeting solutions for operators. Under Project Maven, NVIDIA GPU-accelerated deep learning is used to process terabytes of full-motion video daily, dramatically reducing analyst workload.

Notable Use

Extensively used in Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Somalia, and Yemen; AI targeting upgrades ongoing under Project Maven
