WZ-7 Soaring Dragon

CN — AVIC
Autonomous Drone
DEPLOYED

Description

High-altitude long-endurance reconnaissance drone with AI-assisted SIGINT collection. Designed for autonomous strategic surveillance missions over contested airspace.

The WZ-7 is believed to carry advanced multi-spectral collection systems optimized for mapping radar and electronic emissions from US Pacific bases and carrier strike groups. Its high-altitude operational profile, above 18,000 meters, places it above the effective engagement envelope of many surface-to-air missiles and nearly all fighter aircraft. Multiple intercept attempts by US and allied aircraft of WZ-7 missions over the western Pacific have heightened tensions in the region.

Investment Implications

AVIC and PLA procurement entities are not accessible to Western investors. The ISR mission that WZ-7 performs creates indirect demand for Western counter-ISR investments including L3Harris (LHX) signals intelligence systems.
