Description

Precision loitering munition with optical target recognition enabling autonomous terminal homing. Designed to strike stationary and moving armored targets.

The Lancet-3's optical seeker uses convolutional neural networks trained on thousands of images of Western-supplied weapons systems, giving it a sophisticated database for target discrimination in the Ukrainian battlefield. Its distinctive X-shaped wing configuration provides aerodynamic stability during the extended loiter phase followed by a near-vertical terminal dive that maximizes penetration against armored vehicle roof armor. Russia has used Lancet in large numbers to systematically destroy HIMARS, M777 howitzers, Leopard tanks, and Patriot batteries supplied to Ukraine.

Notable Use

Extensively deployed by Russia in Ukraine 2022–present; confirmed kills of HIMARS, howitzers, and air defense systems

Investment Implications

ZALA Aero Group is part of the Kalashnikov Group, which is under Western sanctions. No publicly traded Western company has direct exposure, but Raytheon (RTX) and Northrop Grumman (NOC) benefit from demand for counter-Lancet systems.
