Description

AI-enabled autonomous combat aircraft designed to escort and support crewed fighters. Uses collaborative autonomy algorithms to execute complex multi-ship missions.

The Boeing Loyal Wingman concept envisions AI-autonomous aircraft serving as force multipliers for crewed fighters, with each crewed aircraft potentially controlling two to four autonomous companions. The collaboration between Boeing's US and Australian divisions has created a cross-Pacific technology sharing arrangement that allows both nations to benefit from development costs. The program feeds directly into the US Air Force's Collaborative Combat Aircraft initiative which has now selected competing designs from General Atomics and Anduril.

Investment Implications

Boeing (BA) is the primary contractor but autonomous systems represent a small portion of its defense revenue. Anduril Industries is privately held and pursuing a direct competitor role in the CCA program.
