Recoverable autonomous interceptor drone designed to destroy cruise missiles, drones, and other aerial threats. Uses AI for autonomous detection, pursuit, and interception.
Roadrunner-M is designed to be recoverable after a successful intercept attempt if the target is not engaged, dramatically reducing the cost per engagement compared to single-use interceptors. The aircraft uses a twin-body configuration with two jet engines and can reach supersonic speeds to intercept fast-moving targets. Anduril has described it as capable of autonomous cooperative engagement, with multiple units sharing sensor data to improve intercept probability against maneuvering targets.
Unveiled 2023; selected for USAF counter-UAS missions; demonstrated autonomous intercept tests
Anduril Industries is a private company, but its growth in defense contracts has been significant enough to attract investment from major private equity. Shield AI (private) competes in similar autonomous intercept roles.
