GrAI-assisted Artillery (GIS Arta)

UA — Kropyva / Ukrainian Army
AI Command & Control
DEPLOYED
2014

Description

AI-powered digital artillery fire management system that processes reconnaissance data and autonomously assigns optimal artillery units to targets. Compresses fire mission time from 20 minutes to under 1 minute.

GIS Arta's name refers to the Ukrainian word for artillery, and its AI algorithms have been compared to Uber for calculating the optimal allocation of available artillery units to target requests submitted by forward observers across the front. The system's reduction of the fire mission cycle from 20 minutes to under 60 seconds fundamentally changed the dynamics of artillery counterfire, as Russian radar-based counterbattery systems cannot respond before Ukrainian artillery has already relocated. GIS Arta is considered one of Ukraine's most significant asymmetric advantages and has been studied extensively by NATO member militaries.

Notable Use

Ukraine's Kropyva system operational since 2014 conflict; GIS Arta dubbed 'Uber for artillery'; mass use 2022–present

Investment Implications

GIS Arta / Kropyva is developed by Ukrainian volunteers and the Ukrainian army, not a commercial entity. Palantir (PLTR) has contributed to Ukrainian C2 modernization efforts and benefits from the visibility this provides.
