Harop (STAR)

Autonomous Drone
DEPLOYED

Description

Advanced variant of Harop with AI-enhanced electro-optical seeker for greater target discrimination. Can autonomously identify and engage both radar emitters and high-value ground targets.

The Harop STAR variant adds an electro-optical seeker to the original anti-radiation homing capability, giving it a true dual-mode guidance system that can switch between passive RF homing and EO terminal guidance depending on target behavior. This capability allows Harop STAR to complete an engagement even if the targeted radar switches off before the final attack phase, defeating the traditional counter-tactic of emission control. India's significant investment in the Harop family reflects its assessment that long-range autonomous anti-radiation weapons are essential for a credible SEAD capability against China and Pakistan.

Investment Implications

IAI is state-owned. Elbit Systems (ESLT) is the most accessible publicly traded Israeli defense equity and often benefits when major IAI export contracts raise the profile of Israeli defense exports generally.
