Description

Directed energy microwave weapon system using AI targeting to disable swarms of drones. Can defeat multiple targets simultaneously with a single energy burst.

THOR's high-power microwave emitter can sweep a broad area with electromagnetic energy that permanently disables drone electronics without requiring precise aim at individual targets, making it effective against swarms where conventional point-defense weapons would be overwhelmed. The system fits in a shipping container that can be transported by C-130 aircraft and set up in less than three hours, providing deployable counter-drone capability for forward positions. USAF testing demonstrated that THOR could defeat over 30 individual drones in a single engagement session, representing a step-change in counter-UAS efficiency.

Notable Use

Demonstrated defeating drone swarms in tests 2020–2023; deployed to Middle East for operational evaluation

Investment Implications

AFRL is a government laboratory, but key industrial partners include Raytheon (RTX) and Boeing (BA) for system integration. The broader counter-UAS directed energy market is emerging as a growth area.
