Tri-mode seeker guided bomb using millimeter wave, imaging infrared, and semi-active laser for all-weather autonomous target acquisition. Can autonomously identify and track moving targets.
Stormbreaker's tri-mode seeker allows it to engage targets in conditions where single-mode seekers would fail, including rain, fog, smoke, and battlefield obscurants that defeat laser-only or imaging infrared-only systems. The weapon's ability to autonomously lock onto moving targets at extended ranges enables non-traditional employment modes including launch-and-leave attacks against mobile vehicles. Its integration on the F-15E and F/A-18E/F gives carrier air wings a significant all-weather precision strike capability against moving targets at sea.
Delivered to USAF; cleared for F-15E/EX, F/A-18E/F; operational deployment Pacific theater
Raytheon Technologies (RTX) is the primary publicly traded beneficiary of Stormbreaker, with the program representing hundreds of millions in revenue over its production life. L3Harris (LHX) produces seeker components.
